Featuring the iconic walking liberty design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the Gold American Eagle is the preferred government-issued bullion gold coin of American investors.
The one-ounce gold coin that can boast the title of the most popular gold coin is the world is non-other than the 1 oz Gold American Eagle. First authorized by Congress in 1985, this bullion coin was an instant smash and reached iconic status almost overnight. The American Gold Eagle is quite simply an obvious top choice for any serious gold bullion investor. It is available in 1 ounce, ½ ounce, ¼ ounce, and 1/10 ounce sizes.
Given its prodigious popularity, the Gold American Eagle bullion gets minted at a relatively modest rate, at an average of far less than a million a year. Any chance to pick up this classic bullion coin should not be overlooked.
The American Gold Eagle bullion coin debuted on the world stage in 1986. Minted in 22-karat gold (.9167 fine), it is extremely durable and strongly resistant to scratching. The largest gold coin struck by the US Mint, its purity is guaranteed by the American Government. Keep in mind it actually weighs a bit over one troy ounce, which explains the slightly lesser percentage of purity despite maintaining a rating of 22-karat gold.
The obverse side’s design is a throwback to another classic American coinage: the Saint-Gaudens $20 double eagle coin, minted domestically from 1907 until 1933 when gold was nationalized. The reverse showed a father Eagle returning to his nest where a mother eagle protects her baby eaglets, sculpted by Miley Busiek (now Tucker-Frost).
The government-backed gold bullion coin market constantly evolves, with new designs being introduced regularly. That’s not entirely true of the American Gold Eagle, which hasn’t changed for over 30 years. To celebrate the bullion coin program’s 35th Anniversary decided to change that, but only on the coin’s reverse side. The obverse remained the same.
For this new edition of the American Gold Eagle, the US Mint chose an illustration from Jennie Norris, an artist from its Artistic Infusion Program. Jennie is also a volunteer raptor handler. She has seen Bald Eagles up close and has used this experience well. The result is a detailed and accurate rendering of an American Bald Eagle. The attention to detail and accuracy are inspiring. For example, never has such careful attention been given to the Bald Eagle’s powerful beak. The eagle’s gaze is stoic and unflinching, and it seems aware of everything in its surroundings, even the viewer.
Another unusual aspect of the reverse design is the layout. The inscription United States of America folds over the top, just as in previous versions. However, E Pluribus Unum and In God, We Trust are stacked on top of each other just above the head of the Bald Eagle. Three stars on either side of the Bald Eagle’s head, along with the text 50 Dollars and 1 oz Fine Gold help to encircle the composition.
The one-ounce Gold American Eagle bears a $50 face value and all Gold American Eagles are fully guaranteed for weight and purity by the US Government.
Both for its timeless patriotic fervor and longstanding dependable value, the American Eagle Gold bullion coin represents a sure-fire bet in the gold bullion market. Backed by the USA, it’s a durable and unforgettable American coinage.
It’s also IRA eligible, adding to the security of your investment.

Are you part of the same Midas Gold Mine with stock symbol mdrpf?
Also I’d like to know, do gold future contracts show the price of future gold or is that just where people think the price is going?
I’d much rather have physical gold than gold sitting in someone volt.
Am I better off owning physical gold or investing in gold mines.
I don’t know about future contracts or EFT’s but is that better? I don’t know but then I don’t have the physical gold. Can you tell me which is best and why without a 20-page explanation.
Thank you for your time.
